2023

1. Painted another Mini Mural, light control box, in Downtown Houston’s Lynn Wyatt Square for the Performing Arts. It was a dream to hand paint a true repeat pattern, that I designed, for this green space, in the theatre district, in the nation’s 4th largest city! It is located at the corner of Texas Ave & Louisiana St, encircled by The Alley Theatre, Jones Hall for the Performing Arts, Bayou Music Center, and the architectural centerpiece of the Houston skyline TC Energy Center. I wanted the yellow flowers to be as pure as possible, with only white primer underneath, so I painted the green background around them, taking me twice as long! Progress pics show the downtown construction zone. I painted in a hard hat & boots, in record heat, while the space was fenced, & under construction. It was cool to be there while the real little yellow flowers, from the landscape plans were being planted by the crew. 2. Live painting at Sugar Land Art Festival, at Smart Financial Center. I was one of four artists & our music themed paintings are now hanging in the Smart Financial Center! Look for them if you attend a show there! 3. Live Shows:: Nikki Lane, Taylor Swift Eras Tour, and Steve Earle. I also saw Cody Jinks at HLSR, Sarah Shook and the Disarmers, The Meteors, and locals Shame on Me! 4. My night blooming flower garden…& day garden! I grew two artichokes, my fave veg! A horticulturist friend taught me how to best grow Nasturtiums in Hou! The 2024 seedlings have sprouted! (a night bloom post is on my to do list) 5. That’s me at It Came From the Bayou Printmaking Showcase, at Saint Arnold Brewing, alongside the most amazing printmakers, curated by Burning Bones Press. 6. I made a new logo for my greeting cards! Two color screen print floral card, taken from a 2017 coffee shop doodle. 7. More screen prints, mono printing, and original pattern designs, printed by me, at Burning Bones Press Print Shop, Houston, TX. The butterfly repeat might be my fave, also from an old coffee shop doodle. I’m always revisiting. I also worked regularly on my surface pattern design portfolio! One thing a day!

Seismique Museum Houston

So happy to be a creator at Seismique immersive art museum. A technology-fueled experiential art museum featuring over 40 unique galaxies (galleries) spanning 40,000 square feet complete with extra-terrestrial beings, artificial intelligence, immersive experiences, gamification, and dazzling displays of light, color, sound, and natural elements.

I designed and painted the Galactic Garden. A black light, space themed garden, featuring bioluminescent flowers, space plants and floating organisms, inspired by the UV vision of nocturnal pollinators, and night blooming flowers in my own, earthly nocturnal garden. Enjoy fungi and space compost swirling and surrounding you, as you walk through the Galactic Garden, hearing the sound of the nearby rain room, by Smooth Technology, and synchronized synesthetic soundscapes of Joshua Jest’s installation, Kaleidral. I can not tell you how great if felt to be let loose with 12 gallons, every color, of the best quality fluorescent paint! —SEISMIQUE 2306 S Texas 6, Houston, TX 77077

Fitzgerald's Mini Mural

We can’t go to any live shows right now, but maybe we can remember some. Fitzgerald’s - 42 years of live music - The building was originally built in 1918, as Dom Polski, a Polish center & dance hall, a VERY well built, wood building. That 2nd floor wood floor, held up, (sometimes questionably) to 100 years of good times, dance, music lovers and punk rock. I saw Fitz being demolished last year, the TX music scene & the checkerboard floor turning up from the ground. Thank you minimurals.org / @upartstudio for working behind the scenes this past year, and finally giving me the go ahead to paint it, right on the corner where it once was! — White Oak at Studemont — Houston, TX—

Lightnin Hopkins is said to be the first show. Stevie Ray VaughAn had a weekly gig. Thousands of shows, legendary acts, and local bands, went through Fitz.

In my research of the history of the first and sixth wards, imagining a time in the past, I visualized everyday life, the houses, the railroad workers, what it would be like to walk the streets. I imagined the old fashioned front yard gardening and sought out to include native plants and trees in my design. The layout of the mural was inspired by an antique Victorian storytelling wallpaper “The Huntsman”. The wave going through the middle of the mural represents the bayous that bind the neighborhood. The sections of plants and trees are what you might see as a stroller through the neighborhood, and farther down the line, the farmland you might see from a train rolling through TX. I definitely have a love for the railroad, so the location of the mural on the railroad tracks at Silver Street, in the historically designated area, was a cool place to hang out and paint. While painting the focal point, the old steam engine, an engineer from a passing train gave me a thumbs up, I felt a nice wink in both directions, a tribute to how the city operates and thrives, past and present. I have a few more related stories that I’ll share here and there! The building houses Bayou City Adventures, you can canoe or kayak with them on the bayous! Thanks to Arts District Houston, HUE Mural Fest, Fresh Arts, Houston MOCA, Houston Arts Alliance and Texas Commission of the Arts.
